1 $4,725 for 27 publications on behalf of the ongoing EGM Past Presidents Library Project, to the UM Engineering Library, bringing the total donation to $10,225 for 90 publications
2 $10,000 in bursaries to 10 students in the ongoing IEEQ program. AFI established this endowed program through a matching grant from the Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Initiative, by contributing $100,000. To date, the Fund has awarded $42,850 to 43 students
3 $2,000 to the UM Student Technology Fund towards the purchase of 4 computers/laptops for students for remote learning required by Covid-19 restrictions
AFI’s administrative costs (no office or salary) are fixed, so the larger the contributions, the more that flows directly to the projects and recipients. Donors can count on the expertise of the Board of Directors to select projects and to direct funding for maximum return on investment.
Much of our funding comes from the endowment that AFI established under the management of The Winnipeg Foundation, which has generated returns that AFI could not have generated on its own. The rest comes from our generous donors in the engineering and geoscience community.
The AFI’s mandate is to support the educational efforts of students of engineering and geoscience, and to that end, will consider support of worthy projects in either field.
We can all recall the many contributions, large and small, that aided our efforts as students. Please help us in our mission to support today’s engineering and geoscience students by:
- suggesting projects that you think would fulfill student needs
- contributing to the endowments that ensure your generosity lives on, or to our general fund
All donations qualify for a charitable receipt for income tax purposes. Any contribution of $10 or more entitles you to an annual membership for the current calendar year in AFI with voting rights and the right to attend any meeting, with advance notice. If you wish your contribution to be directed to an endowment fund, please specify:
- UM IEEQ Endowment Fund
- AFI Endowment Fund
